Crowns and Bridges
Crowns:
Crowns are a 'cap', that looks like a tooth, that is placed on top of your natural tooth. The crown covers the entire tooth from the gum line to the chewing surface. Many times these caps are a custom shade, matching your other teeth, however, they can be made of metal as well. Crowns are used for many different purposes including:
To help protect a weak tooth
To cover a procedure such as a root canal
To cover a dental implant
Bridges:
A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, essentially "bridging"
the gap. This bridge is held in place with two crowns on the ends. A bridge is a good option if you are looking to just replace one tooth.
Procedure:
Crowns are made by taking an impression of your tooth the way it is when you come in, so a temporary crown can be made. A new impression of your tooth after it is 'prepped' is then taken and sent off to the lab. The lab then makes a custom crown that will fit and look similar to the teeth around it. The whole process, from start to finish, normally takes about 3 weeks.
We do offer same day crowns in our office as well! This means you will have your permanent crown cemented on when you leave our office!
